California Nonresident Tuition Exemption commonly known as AB 540, exempts certain
students from paying nonresident tuition (higher than resident tuition) and/or allows
them to apply and receive state aid at certain California public and private colleges.

Senate Bill 68 Implementation Supplemental Q&A
This bill enacts provisions relating to cross-enrollment of community college students
in online courses offered by campuses, defined as teaching campuses, other than their
home campuses, as defined. The bill requires that the program established by this
bill be available at a community college that is part of the Online Education Initiative
Consortium, as defined. The bill specifies the qualifications to be met by participating
students.The bill requires the Chancellor’s Office of the California Community Colleges
to provide an online methodology to allow eligible students to be informed of opportunities
to access online courses, to enroll in those online courses, and to provide consent
to electronically transfer all relevant enrollment data to the teaching college. The
bill authorizes a community college district whose students are participating in this
program to accept the determination of a student’s residency classification under
certain conditions.

The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) is the singular general education pathway for California Community College (CCC) students to fulfill lower-division general education requirements necessary for transfer and admission to both the California State University (CSU) and the University of California (UC).
The curriculum and its policies are overseen by the Intersegmental Committee of the Academic Senates (ICAS), representing faculty from California's three segments of public higher education.
